The School of Mechanical Engineering (SME) at KIIT-DU celebrated Engineers' Day on September 15, 2023, at the Seminar Hall, SME, from 12:00 PM to 02:00 PM, commemorating the 162 nd birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Esteemed industry experts graced the event as guests, sharing insights on the contemporary role of academics in engineering and the expectations of industry and society from today’s young engineers.
Prof. Bharat Chandra Routara, the Dean of SME, extended a warm welcome to our distinguished guests and highlighted SME's pivotal role in shaping the future of budding engineers i.e., the students enrolled in various programs within the School.
Er. Swadesh Kumar Nayak from Bajaj India Ltd. elaborated on the crucial role engineers play in the automobile industry, emphasizing the importance of equipping students with relevant skills to contribute positively to both industry and society.
Er. R. K. Sabat, Ex-VP of Jindal Steels & Power Ltd., elucidated the need for conventional steel- making processes amidst emerging advanced technologies. He underscored the importance of blending current state-of-the-art practices with the aspirations of tech-savvy young engineers.
Er. J. P Das, DGM-IT at Vizag Steel, stressed the significance of a good company, purity of thought, and hard work in achieving success. He also shared techniques to channelize thoughts effectively, enhancing concentration.
Er. Tushar Kumar Mishra, GM of Captive Power Plant at NALCO Angul, encouraged students to prioritize not only becoming skilled engineers but also good human beings.
Following these enlightening discussions, certificates were awarded to the winners of the quiz competition held on Engineers' Day. Dr. Nitin Sharma, Associate Dean of SME, emphasized the importance of patience in building good character and extended the vote of thanks, concluding the session on a positive note.
