The School of Mechanical Engineering (SME), KIIT Deemed to be University, successfully organized a distinguished guest lecture as part of the Mechanical Engineering Colloquium Series on 16 September 2026 at the Conference Hall, SME.

The lecture was delivered by Prof. Saptarshi Basu, INAE Chair Professor and KSIIDC Chair, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, on the theme:

🔹 “Research in Engineering: From Hypersonics to Healthcare to Space”

Through the fascinating lens of droplet science, Prof. Basu demonstrated how fundamental research in fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and multiphase phenomena can contribute to diverse and emerging engineering applications—from hypersonic flows and propulsion to healthcare and space technologies.

The lecture offered valuable insights into the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary engineering research and encouraged faculty members and research scholars to explore innovative research directions that connect fundamental science with real-world engineering challenges.

A dedicated post-lecture interaction with the thermal engineering faculty members and students of SME, KIIT-DU, provided an enriching platform for exchanging ideas, discussing emerging research areas, and exploring potential avenues for academic and research collaboration.

The School of Mechanical Engineering sincerely thanks Prof. Saptarshi Basu for his insightful lecture, valuable perspectives, and engaging interaction with the KIIT academic community. His visit and thought-provoking session contributed meaningfully to strengthening the culture of research, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration at SME.
